Every tree pruning, removal, or clearing job produces green waste — and that waste doesn’t have to be a problem. At Next Level Tree Solutions we chip green waste on-site as standard, turning what would otherwise be a disposal headache into high-quality mulch that genuinely benefits your property. We also sell and deliver fresh arborist chip mulch across Northern NSW and South East QLD for gardens, farms, landscaping projects, and erosion control.

On-Site Wood Chipping

When we carry out pruning, deadwood removal, land clearing, or tree removal on your property, we bring our wood chipper and process the green waste at the site. This eliminates the skip bin fees that come with organic material disposal, removes the need to wait for council green waste collection, and turns what was waste into a genuinely useful product.

The resulting fresh arborist chip can be:

  • Directed straight onto garden beds and around tree bases as you want it
  • Spread across areas you want to mulch — paths, fire breaks, bare ground
  • Left in a pile for you to use over time
  • Removed from site by our team if you’d rather not have it

Just let us know when we arrive what you’d like done with it — it takes seconds to redirect the chipper chute.

Mulch Sales and Bulk Delivery

We sell fresh recycled arborist chip mulch directly to homeowners, landscapers, nurseries, farms, councils, and developers. It’s local material — chipped from tree work across Northern NSW — not the bagged pine bark or dyed chip products you find at hardware stores. Fresh arborist chip consistently outperforms those products for tree health and soil improvement, and at a significantly better price per cubic metre.

Bulk delivery is available across Northern NSW and SE QLD. Minimum orders and delivery fees vary by location — call us to discuss quantities and pricing for your specific area.

Our mulch is ideal for:

  • Garden beds — suppresses weeds, retains soil moisture, feeds soil biology as it decomposes
  • Around tree bases — protects surface roots, moderates soil temperature, improves water retention in our hot summers
  • Erosion control — stabilises bare slopes and disturbed ground, particularly after clearing work
  • Fire breaks — bare mineral soil fire breaks on rural properties
  • Rural pathways and tracks — low-cost, natural surface material
  • Revegetation projects — improves establishment conditions for native plantings
  • Farms and acreage — bulk orders for large areas are welcome

Why Arborist Chip Mulch is Better Than the Alternatives

Fresh arborist chip mulch — a rough mix of wood, bark, and leaf material — is consistently the best-performing mulch type for trees and garden beds. Here’s why it outperforms bagged alternatives:

It Feeds the Soil Food Web

Fresh chip decomposes slowly, feeding the fungi, bacteria, and invertebrates that make up a healthy soil ecosystem. It particularly encourages mycorrhizal fungi — the beneficial fungi that form symbiotic relationships with tree roots and dramatically improve nutrient and water uptake. Trees under a good arborist chip mulch consistently outperform unmulched trees in the same conditions.

It Retains Moisture

A 75–100mm layer of mulch reduces soil moisture evaporation by up to 70% in summer conditions. In Northern NSW’s hot, dry periods between rain events, this makes a substantial difference to plant health and significantly reduces the frequency and volume of watering required. Read our post on how much mulch you need and how to apply it correctly.

It Suppresses Weeds

Weed seeds need light to germinate. An adequate layer of mulch cuts off that light. In our subtropical climate where weed pressure is year-round and intense — lantana, tradescantia, cobbler’s pegs, paspalum — a proper mulch layer significantly reduces the ongoing management burden.

It Doesn’t Compact

Fine bark and wood chip products from hardware stores often compact into a near-impermeable layer that prevents water reaching roots. Coarse arborist chip stays open and allows water to penetrate freely, even after months in place.

How to Apply Mulch Correctly

The most common mulching mistake we see — by a significant margin — is volcano mulching: piling mulch up against the tree trunk. This retains moisture against the bark, promotes fungal rot and pest entry, and can kill trees slowly over years. Keep mulch at least 100–150mm away from the trunk itself, and apply it in a “doughnut” shape rather than a volcano. Apply at 75–100mm depth for garden beds, 100–150mm around tree bases. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get mulch from my own tree work?

Yes — and this is the easiest way to get high-quality mulch at no extra cost. When we’re doing any tree work on your property, just tell us you’d like the chips left on-site and directed to wherever you want them. We’ll position the chipper chute accordingly. The only situation where this isn’t possible is if the material contains species that would be problematic as mulch (e.g., some weed tree species that may re-shoot from fragments) — we’ll let you know if that applies.

How much mulch do I need?

Multiply the area you want to cover (in square metres) by your depth (in metres). For a 20m² garden bed at 100mm: 20 × 0.1 = 2 cubic metres. Our mulch quantity guide has a full table with common areas and depths worked out for you.

What’s the minimum order for delivery?

Call us to discuss — minimum orders and delivery charges vary depending on your location and what we have available. We can often combine delivery with tree work in your area, which reduces the effective delivery cost. Large bulk orders for farms, landscaping projects, and developments are welcome.

Is arborist chip mulch suitable for vegetable gardens?

Fresh arborist chip is best used around trees and established ornamental plantings rather than directly in vegetable beds. As it decomposes it temporarily ties up nitrogen in the soil, which can affect vegetable crops. For vegetable gardens, use it as a pathway material between beds, or let a batch age for 6–12 months before applying around edible plants. As a thick layer around fruit trees, it’s excellent.
